I am ready for Summer Nights

It's been a sun-filled, pool-side, pina-cola drinking weekend.  I've spent the last two days at my sister L's house and enjoyed every minute of it.  I always tell people that it's my summer home.  I am so spoiled and I love it.  Why am I so spoiled?  Well, for starter's my brother-in-law is a fantastic bartender and he and his father are the master grillers.  I have gained 5 pounds in 2 days and I don't care. It's worth it!!

I am so glad that summer is here. It's not that I want a summer vacation, it's that it's great to finally have something to do during that time.  Last summer, I was laid off at the beginning of July and was given a mandatory summer vacation. Not gonna lie, I did enjoy it.  I made the best of it.  But at the same time was feeling guilty for sleeping late and doing nothing. Flash forward to 2011, I am back to normal and loving it. What a difference one year makes.

Happy Memorial Day!  What does that mean to me? Well, it' means that I am so grateful that I live in this country and we have people that are willing to risk their lives for someone like me.  I thank God all the time for the fact that I was born here.  Yeah, U.S.A.!!

Hope that everyone had a great weekend.  It's the beginning of summer so today's theme is kicking off a great time of the year.  Enjoy!

I didn't like this song when I was younger but started to dig it much later.

Oh, I so wanted to be them.

My weekend is Booked

Uh, it's the end of May, how did this month fly by so fast. The last time I blogged was over a week ago. I kept thinking that it was just a few days.  So I better make this good right?  Well, too bad.  I don't know what I am going talk about today.  lol!

What is on my mind today?  My new Foo Fighters CD that I heart, the Memorial Day weekend, The 80's movie weekend on Encore.  Not a lot going on in my head.  As usual, just work and that's pretty much it.  No dating, no meeting new guys - pretty much business as usual.

I have picked up a few books that I  can't wait to read. Below are the titles.

1. If You Were Here - Jen Lancaster
She is my favorite author.  I was finally able to meet her a few weeks ago when she had a book signing at Barnes & Noble. She did a reading from the book, answered questions and then signed autographs.  Of course, I could not think of anything to ask.  But I wish I would have planned better.  Apparently you had to get a card to stand in line for the autographs. The groups were A, B and C.  I was in group C.  I had no idea that we could have gone the day before to get a card. Instead, I got mine that evening after work.  What did that mean for me?  Well, I stood in line for over an hour and half to get my book signed.  And here is what I literally just realized, I could have been reading the book while I was there.  Instead I listened to my iPod.  Yes, I am not that bright.

2. The Carrie Diaries - Candance Bushnell
Oh, how I've missed you Carrie Bradshaw.  This one is about Carrie's life in high school. I tried reading Sex and City a couple of years ago but really couldn't get into it.  I picked this one up and I am really enjoying it.  There is another book, Summer in the City so I wanted to read this one first before I started on that one.

3. Zlata's Diary: A Child's Life in Sarajevo - Zlata Filipovic
I read about this book in another book by Erin Gruwell.  It's kind of like the Diary of Anne Frank.  Can't wait to start on it.

Well that is all for today.  This weekend I plan on hanging by my sister's pool, cleaning my house and doing some major reading.  Today's soundtrack is books, of course. Hope you enjoy it.

This is such a great song.  Makes me want to cry every time but I love it.

Oh, good high school memories listening to this one.

New song - love it!

Can't go wrong with a little Simon & Garfunkel, can you?

Have a great Memorial Weekend! Thanks for reading my blog!

I have no snappy title today.

Wow! Where have I been?  Working and loving it. I can't believe that it's been over a week since I last blogged.  And I've had something to do almost every night.  I've had a wedding, a surprise party for my sister, a couple of happy hours, a few shows and a couple of nights out with the girls.  Busy good times.

Even though I am a social butterfly, I've had a chance to watch my stories.  I am loving The Voice!!!  I have a few disagreements on who they have chosen but I will let it slide since I love the show so much.  This weekend, I plan on hitting the rest of my DVR'd shows.  I think I have like 15 hours sitting there.  I can't wait. It will be me and my little slacker doing a some major vegging.  This of course, after the two back to back shows I have on Friday and Saturday night.

I don't think I have theme today for the soundtrack so I will just give you some good tunes.  Enjoy!

This is my newest crush.

Just saw her on Monday night.

Saw this group a couple of weekends ago.  Loved them!!!

Clap Your Hands for Random Thoughts

Total random thoughts today so get ready.

Who is watching "The Voice"?  Raise your hand.  I have been on board since the beginning. I have always loved Adam Levine but now my love is being tested by one smoking hot, Blake Shelton. Hubba, Hubaa!  I've never heard any of his music.  But after watching the show, holy moly - I want me a tall drink of water like Blake Shelton.  GRR!!!!!  I no longer live in the country but I tell you what, I wouldn't mind me a country boy like him.

I found the cheapest toy for my squatter Oliver.  What is it?  It's a long ribbon.  He's has been playing with it for the last week.  If I knew that was all it would take, I wouldn't have spent so much dough on those cat toys that are sitting in the corner.

Work is great. Loving it!  Lots of great things going on with it.  I am so lucky!!!!

I just have to brag.  Yesterday, my 12 year old niece was inducted into the National Junior Honor Society.  We all went to the ceremony and then to dinner to celebrate.  I am so proud of her.  I know she worked so hard for that.  I hope she knows how proud we are all of her.

Since it's a random post here are some great random songs that are rocking my world. Enjoy!

My day is Looking Up

Thank you for letting me rant  in my last post.  I needed to get it off my chest and I do feel better.  I talked it over with my good friend "T" and she helped me see things a little clearer.

So things are rawink' at work.  I am loving my job and I am seeing some results from my hard work.  It is so nice to be with a company that is so stress-free.  I've been working hard but because I love it, it doesn't seem like I am working.  How lucky am I?

I am so ready for Friday and not because the work week is ending but because I am going to Barnes & Noble for a book signing.  My favorite author, Jen Lancaster will be there. It's been on my calendar for five months and I can't believe it's finally here.  I am so excited, I can't wait!  I have no idea what I am going to wear.  I know I need to look really cute and preppy.  And what am I going to say to her?  I need to be very witty because she is a so freakin' funny.  What if I am so funny that she decides that she wants to hang out with me and then we become BFF's? Oh, the possibilities.  Did I mention that I am a total dork?

It's been a better day.  So here a few songs that are lifting my spirits today.

Thanks for reading my blog.

All by myself - boo!

I don't know what to write about today.  My love for Blake Shelton and Adam Levine or how I am feeling down about friendship.  I guess today it's the sadness I feel about friends - loosing them and them moving on.  I don't know how to explain it but I will try.  I look around and all my closest friends have moved on and gotten a life.  Then I look at my life and I am the female Peter Pan.  Everyone has chosen a path that includes a husband, family, carpools, teacher conferences and play-dates.  Then I look at myself, my next big decision is if I should get another cat to keep Oliver company.  Or what kind of cereal I should try.  I live like a child. I'm like Seinfeld without the annoying neighbor.  And I am just as funny as he is but I can't perform on command.  Okay maybe not as funny but I can make a few people giggle.

Then there are the friends that I thought were friends but come to find out that it was just a friendship of conveniece so when I need them, they are not there.  Or if I can't do anything for them anymore, they don't need me.  Maybe I am being a baby.  So what, I want to feel sorry for myself right now.  Sometimes you just have to do that.  Tomorrow will be a better day but for today, my soundtrack is feeling sorry for myself.

Thanks for reading my blog.

Raise your Glass to 41

My birthday is today.  41 - wow!  How did I get to that number? I am not saying it's bad (because I am happy to be this age), I am just wondering how yesterday I was 12 years old and today I am middle -aged.  Crazy nuts!!  Honestly, I am excited to be in my 40's.  While I was in my 30's, it was a little tough on me. But in my late 30's, I started becoming more and more comfortable with who I am and what I have become.  So, 41 is a rawkin' age.

However this morning was a rough start.  First of all, sometime during the middle of the night, my cat Oliver decided that I was going to be his trampoline.  I was sound asleep and I awoke to Oliver pouncing on my stomache. He was a real life Tigger.  He took a jump from the top of my bed and landed on my belly and bounced off to the bed. So glad that he had a good time.

I had planned on sleeping in this morning but that didn't happen due to the Tigger incident and then about 6:30am, he decided that he needed to be loved on and petted. So there was went my morning.  Since that was interrupted, the gym was calling my name.  Felt good to get my sweat on this morning.

Continuing with the bad start - may I remind you that it is May 1st and we should not be freezing. That put me in a bad mood.  To add insult to injury, I burnt my ear with my straightener. AHH!!  After that happened, I decided to put my mood in check and feel better.  Off to church I went (freezing and all) and had a good time.  I snuck out a little early because I wanted to take a quick nap (I am not gonna lie why I snuck out early).  Walking out to my car, I look at my tires and my back tire is flat.  AHHHHHHHH!!!  I have never had to really deal with that so I had a bit of a panic attack.  I called my sister, L for advice and she gave me some good tips.  I found a gas station and got settled.   I said a prayer because I have never put air in my tire and was freakin' out. Just as I was about to try it, a truck came up with a couple and I looked up a them and I know that I looked like a hurt puppy and I know I had tears in my eyes.  Now understand, it's my birthday, it's cold and having a car problem is something that I just can't afford right now (remember - out of work for 8 months).  The guy came out and was nice and aired up my tire and showed me how to do it.  Whew!!!  Thank you Lord!

My day got so much better because I had a great lunch with my sisters.  Carrabas - mmm!!!!  I am still stuffed from it.  I love me some Italian creme sodas.  Thank you Tiffany for showing me the light on that.  And then my favorite - German Chocolate cake!!!  D-lish!!!  That's how you end a birthday lunch.

I will be honest, I was feeling really lonely first thing this morning since I am sans a dude in my life but I tell you what, I know am loved because I have received so many Birthday text messages, phone calls and facebook posting.  Thank you to everyone that remembered me on my day.  I really appreciate it.  Today's soundtrack is what I was feeling today.  I am happy to see another year and happy to be blessed with some great people in my life.
