The Call to make my weekend great!
After my last posting, I decided to put on my big girl panties and get over it. I can't worry about the past, it doesn't do anything for me. All I can do is be happy with what is in front of me. So this leads me to gist of my blog. Top 4 reason my weekend was epic.
4. Slept until about 11am on Saturday.
3. Spend the day at my cousin's house on Saturday and saw 2 of my cousins that I have not seen in 2 years.
2. I didn't worry about my friend situation. See my intro above.
1. I took my 12 year old niece to see NKOTBSB. For those that are not in the know, that is short for New Kids on The Block and Backstreet Boys.
The concert was AMAZING!! We arrived early and were ready for a great show. Our seats were super high, behind the stage. Granted not the best seats but we were there and we were happy. About 10 minutes before the concert started, a woman came up to us and asked if it was just us 2 at the show. Once we told her yes, she asked if we wanted to move down into the lower level to watch the show. OF COURSE!!!! Turns out she worked for Livenation (the concert promoter) and didn't want the tickets to go to waste.
We made our way downstairs to discover our seats were on the 1st level, 7 rows from the pit and super close to the stage. Our mouths hit the floor. I think we jumped up and down, I don't remember - it was all a blur. A super fantastic happy blur! We sang, danced, laughed and screamed until our lungs hurt. Seeing my niece have a great time was probably one of the hi-lights of my night. I guess this is how a parent feels when they see their child so happy. I loved every minute of it. I was so glad that she had such a great time. Even today we were still talking about. I think is so neat that my niece is open to all kinds of music. She knew some of the songs and the ones she didn't, she still danced and enjoyed them. I continued the tradition with her. I took my oldest niece, Celeste to see News Kids for her birthday in 1990 and then I took my two other nieces, Marisa and Micki to see Backstreet in 2001 or 2002. And now, Gab is a part of our little awesome club. Now she and I will have an awesome memory. Check out our pics.
I think I took over 100 pictures. So worth it. Since it was a NKOTBSB day, today's soundtrack - der!
Thanks for reading my blog!

Friends
Growing a part sucks. Whether it's a friend, classmate or co-worker that you lose, it hurts. I recently had a falling out with a very close friend, I will call that person X. A friend that I've know for over 25 years (or more). What was it about? I have no idea. Because X will not tell me, nor return a call, a text or email. I have tried to find out why but to no avail.
I was very upset when it first happened and I cried a lot. Then I moved onto sadness and loss. This was the person that I talked to about 3 - 4 times a week. A lot of times our calls were just to check in and say hi. Then there were times where we discussed all the things that were causing turmoil in our lives. We were there to catch each other and be a sounding board.
Now I am just mad. So I decided that I would have to put it all behind me and move on just as X has done. It's truly sad when you think you know someone and then you find out exactly what kind of person they really are. Yes, I know I ended my sentence with a preposition and I don't care. That's how mad I am, I don't care about my punctuation today.
I will get over this, just as I have gotten over all my other heartaches. Life is too short to hold grudges. I just wish X would remember that, especially since I have been the only one trying to make amends. I guess some people don't really care about the hurt they cause others. That's life right? I know that if someone was trying to get back in my good graces, I would at least try to hear them out and not ignore them. But not everyone is like me. Thank goodness for small favors, right? :)
So the lesson learned today, if you have a fight/argument/spat with someone, get over it, especially if the person you are mad at is trying to make ammends. I don't want to throw people under the bus, I just needed to clear my mind and purge my soul today. This has been weighing on my heart and I couldn't take it anymore. It had to make it's way into the light. Sorry that I am such a downer today and I will write a better, happier blog soon.
Today's soundtrack - friendship: finding it and keeping it.

I wish Atticus was my dad.
Today is father's day and sad to say, I've never really celebrated. I grew up without a father and raised mostly by women. I lived on the isle of Wonder Women. Everyone that surrounded my little life was a woman, a strong woman. And by strong I mean, they didn't remarry and they raised their kids to the best of their ability. I will always be thankful to have such wonderful women my life.
As for a male figure, I never really had one. I didn't even realize that you were supposed to have a father. I mean, I saw families on TV but I knew that wasn't real so it didn't dawn on me that I was missing something. Along with my family, a lot of my friends were kids with divorced parents and therefore no father figure. Kinda sad now that I see it in writing.
Now all these years later, I realize that I did miss something. I missed having someone to really talk to me about how a man should treat a woman and a male role model to show me unconditional love. But I can say, that I see within my family that we do have some great fathers. My big brother and each of my brother-in-laws have been the father figure that I never had. I see that there are really good men that love their wives and most of all their children. They've taught them how to be good people. So to those men in my family - Happy Father's Day! I hope that someday I meet a man that can measure up to my brothers. Tall task but the right man will be able to do it.
Today's soundtrack - well, fathers. Enjoy!

Crazy Train to the Mavs Victory Parade
It's been an exciting week. First the Mavs win and then the Mavericks Victory Parade. I am so lucky, my company let me have the morning off so that I could attend it. Yes, I am really blessed to have this job.
Once they announced the parade, the wheels in my brain started turning. How was I going to get there? Who would I go with? How early should I leave? In one day, my plans change about 80 times. After all was said and done, I ended up going myself. I asked like 2 people to go and they couldn't go, so I decided not to even bother with asking anyone else.
My adventure began at 6:45am. I figured as long as I was at the train station for the 8am train that I should be okay since the parade started at 10am that was 2 hours to kill. Genius! Or so I thought. Showing up at the train station was an event in itself. The entire platform was covered with Mavs fans, hundreds. Then there was the issue of parking. Thank goodness I remembered that there was parking in downtown Irving. Of course, it took me awhile to figure that out as I drove around the train parking lots - twice! But as luck would have it, I did remember and found a great space.
On to the train and my supplies were set: bottled water, snacks, a book, my iPod and a digital camera. As soon as I arrive, the plan was to get my train ticket and wait. I walk up and check out the line. It is about 60 people deep. Off to the back of the line. Then I heard a woman give someone a tip - you can buy your ticket from a bus driver. Another woman next to me heard the same thing. We hurried up and ran to a couple of buses to buy our tickets. 3rd time was the charm. Ticket in hand and we are ready to conquer the parade.
Once I had my ticket, it was about 8:15am. No worries, plenty of time. Time to stand in line and wait for the train. There are tons of people standing around talking about the game and how excited they were for the parade. 45 minutes later, 2 trains have all ready stopped at the station. Now here is where it gets sticky. Yes the trains came by but they were filled to capacity and yet they were still opening the doors and people were still trying to get in them. Here's a riddle, if you have a train that is packed like a can of sardines, how many more sardines can you add? NONE!! But some people didn't seem to get that through their heads. I saw people literally trying to make themselves smaller so that they could cram themselves into this steel sardine can on wheels.
By this time, people weren't talking about the Mavs, they were talking about the horrible conditions (remember - Texas heat) and how angry they were getting about having to wait. Turns out when I arrived, most of those people had all ready been waiting for about an hour. Yikes!
There were some that just gave up and left. About this time we were told that they had buses taking people to the parade. A mad rush of people ran to those buses. I however stayed. I was determined to get on the train. I can't remember how many trains came by but each time was the same process. Finally one train showed up and some of us were able to board. But there was still a ton of us still waiting patiently. About 9:50 or so, they released another train and we all jumped on it. Here's the bonus - we were not sardines!! It was perfect.
My plan was to go to Victory Plaza but that killed. Instead the train took us to Union Station. Which worked out even better. We stepped off the train and started walking to Houston Street (which was on the parade route). Suddenly we heard the bagpipes - the beginning of the parade. A full sprint was underway to the street. Got there just in time as the parade started.
The problem with arriving last is being in the very back. Being short is a huge bummer when are on the last row at a parade. But you can stand on your tipy-toes and see quite a bit. As for taking pictures, again be short stinks. I stood on my tipy-toes, raised my camera as high as I could and just started shooting pictures. I was able to see the parade by peeking around people.
Once it was over, all I had to do was turn around and jump back on the train. Getting back was so much easier then getting there. All in all, I had a great time. All the sweat, heat and crowds was worth it. I had quite an adventure and loved every minute of it.
Below are a few pics. And for today's soundtrack the theme is my trip. Enjoy!

The Time is Now for Winning!!!
Wow! What a weekend!!! The Mavs won the NBA Finals last night. I still can't believe it. I don't know if I've told you before but I love me some sports. I love going to games and watching them on the tube - football, basketball and oh yes the baseball.
Within one year, I've experienced a sports lovers fantasy - the Rangers in the World Series and now the Mavericks in the NBA Finals. Last October when the Rangers took out the Yankees, it was the most amazing high. My sister, L and I were in Austin and watched the game at restaurant. When they struck out A-Rod, we lost our minds. We were jumping around, screaming, crying and hugging each other. Hi-fiving perfect strangers and responding to text messages like crazy. You see, my sister and I love baseball. We have gone to so many games together and loved everyone of them. Now that I think about it, it was extremely fitting that I was with her when the Rangers made it to the World Series. Over 21 years of being fans together and there we were enjoying that moment. As silly as this is, I am sitting here tearing up thinking about it. It's one of the best memories I have of us together. Granted, they didn't win the series but that was still an amazing feat and to be a long time fan and to see them reach the World Series was still one of the best things ever!
As for last night, I was able to watch game 6 at work. We have a 30 foot screen and concert sound. FANTASTIC! After living through the horrible 2006 series, it was crazy nuts to see our little Mavs play the dreaded Miami again. Scared - yes I was but faithful. I ended up meeting a really good friend of my, Dave at the watching party. He and I worked together years ago at KISS FM. And back in 1999 - 2000, we started going to watch the Mavs play...at Reunion Arena. Yes, Reunion Arena. We loved going to the games along with the other 5 fans. Just kidding. There were 15. Dave was there when I fell in love with my little Steve Nash. We always had a great time back then so last night watching the game together was full-circle. What a different 11 years makes. As the clock was winding down, we just looked each other and couldn't stop smiling. As the buzzer went off, hugs and tears were flowing. Everyone was screaming and jumping up and down. It was such a magical moment. I know that sounds weird since I am not a player but as a fan it was magic. I know that my big brother is still on Cloud 9. Now he is true Mavs. He has been going to the games as long as I can remember. I am so happy that he was able to enjoy last night's victory, he and his wife went to the American Airlines Center to watch the game. World complete! Can't wait for the parade.

I don't want to be a Heat Miser
When I was in the 7th grade we had a health teacher that told us that women glisten, men perspire and horses sweat. Well, I am not a girly girl, so I am glistening like a horse right now. This summer is going to be so brutal. AHH!!! At work, my sweet car doesn't get to sit in a nice, cool garage so I have to park in a regular parking lot and walk to my office. Can I just say walking from my car to my office is crazy nuts. I drop 5 pounds each way. Of course, I put them back on because I also eat like a horse.
Today was my ritual cleaning day and 90210 marathon. I love the smell of pinesol. It's been a busy cleaning, checkbook balancing and bill paying kind of day. There hasn't been much thinking today so I got that going for me.
Not a long going on so I will end with today's soundtrack. Enjoy!

I love technology. Or do I?
Another Friday night and I am alone again. But that wasn't the plan. The plan was to go out with a couple of friends and have a girls night out. As you can see, my plan took another turn. Actually I am kind of ticked. We made these plans on Tuesday to go out tonight. Everyone was on board and I was ready to take on the night.
Earlier today I sent a text to remind the girls about tonight. We were supposed to leave at 8:30pm. What happened? Nothing. Did not hear from any of them, not a text, email or phone call. So about 8pm I gave up and decided to get the jammies on and read my book. Then a little after 9:00, I started getting text messages asking if we were going. Okay, we were supposed to leave at 8:30 and you agreed to it, then why do text me at 9:00 to ask if we are still going? Are you kidding me? Over 30 minutes later and you just now contact me?
Why is it that even though we have 8000 technological ways to get in touch with people that we can't seem to reply to a damn text/email/voicemail/tweet/facebook message? Irritating!!!! Yes, I had to cuss in this blog because I mean it. Technology is making us way too freaking lazy and rude for our own good. Wasn't having all these fun things supposed to make it easier to get a hold of someone? Don't get me wrong, I love all the techy toys but really people can we be human and have some manners again?
Sorry for rant but I had to get it out. For today's soundtrack - technology.
Thanks again for letting me rant and for reading my blog. I know tomorrow will be a much better day.

A Fascination with music videos
Summer makes me feel like a kid again. When I didn't worry about paying bills or trying to find my perfect match. My life was consumed with The Price is Right, reruns of Happy Days (oh, how I loved Scott Baio) and then our newest obsession, music videos. Before we had MTV, we had Night Tracks and Friday Night Videos and they showed after 10pm, only two nights a week. So each Friday and Saturday, my best friend Tina and I would prepare for our weekend of watching music videos. We made sure that we didn't sleep late so that we could take a nap in order to stay up all night to watch these magical mini movies. We LOVED them! Not only loved them but we were obsessed with them. Next, our snacks had to be in order. Dr. Pepper, popcorn, Nacho Cheese Doritos and of course big honkin' dill pickles. My mom used to treat me with buying the big industrial-size jar of pickles. We would take the leftover pickle juice and freeze it for later. Even now my mouth is watering thinking of that frozen pickle juice. Yum!! And last but not least, my jam box and cassette tapes. We had to be ready at any moment to record. You never knew what was going to pop up and we wanted to be the cool kids with the newest songs.
It makes me sad that people nowadays don't record music off the radio (or TV) like we used to. You had to have patience and a good trigger finger. You didn't want to get the DJ (unless you liked them) or a commercial. Sometimes it would take all day to get the perfect recording. But that was the fun of it. We sat around and waited for that one song. And when we got it, it was magical. We would then listen our newest creation for hours.
Back to the video watching parties. We watched every video and then memorized them so that the next time we could either do the dance (if there was one) or any move or gesture they made. We learned so much including that British guys were hot (thank you England for Duran Duran), a new outfit could make any dorky girl the hottest chick on the block (ZZ Top chicks were our newest stylists) and stalking was romantic as long as you wrote a song about it (Sting, I'm talking to you).
That is probably one of the sweetest memories I have from my early teen years. Our lives were consumed with those videos, the bands in those videos and of course, the teen magazines that featured those bands. I miss 16 and BOP.
Oh, good times. So in honor of those wonderful weekends with my best friend Tina, today's soundtrack is from a few of our favorite videos. Enjoy!

I know for a fact that I had this issue.
And Rick Springfield is
Holy Moly - how cute were Duran Duran and Menudo?
I had that Menudo poster.

The Garcia's took the Holiday Road in '79
It's Saturday morning and I am taking it pretty easy. I guess I am still on my Mavs high. Not a lot going on this week.
Wow, I really have nothing on my mind. Maybe my thoughts are on summer vacation all ready. I do love the summer time. I've had some great summer memories. One of my best one's was when I was 9 years old. It was 1979 and me, my 2 sisters and mom took a road trip to Dallas with our big sister and her husband (who lived in Carrollton). I remember it was so hot and I was so excited. Our brother (he lived in Garland) lent us his blue station wagon and the 6 of us piled into it and made our way to Dallas. I remember sitting in the very back of the car and watching all the cars pass us by. So much luggage and me. I can't even tell you how long we stayed there but it felt like the whole summer. Of course I was 9 years old and keeping a calendar didn't ever enter my mind.
That trip was filled with everything a 9-year-old girl could ever want. There was a visit to the store (I think it was Toys R Us but I don't remember) and I got to pick out my birthday present. I all ready knew what I was going to pick out. I had seen it on TV and my little heart was all a flutter. I walked down the aisles and headed straight to my first and only Barbie. She was a Malibu Barbie with a green bikini, sunglasses, towel and tan lines. Oh, I loved her. She was perfect and she was now mine. Then came a surprise. I was also getting a Barbie case. And not just a regular case, a pink double-size Barbie case. My mind raced as I was thinking of all the things I was going to put in there. But wait, that wasn't all. I was getting a couple of Barbie outfits. My life was now complete.
The Barbie trip was just the beginning of the most spectacular summer of my little life. Next came my step into adolescence. I got my ears pierced. I thought I was ready and that I could handle it. I don't remember the actual event but what I remember the most was how much my ears hurt and I had to sleep on my back and tried not to move. Plus they were as red as lobsters. And here is the stupid part, when my mom asked me if they hurt I said no because I was afraid that if I said yes, that she would make me take them out. Yes, I was an idiot.
Next came our two outings. We took my first trip to the zoo. I think it was the Dallas Zoo but I can't be sure. I think it was fun. And last but not least, we were going to Six Flags. If I thought my life was complete before with my Barbie, I was so wrong. It was hot summer day and I wanted to see and ride everything. My conquest - the Shockwave. Now here is the thing, I had never been on a roller coaster but I knew I had to do it. It was phenomenal! I loved every minute of that day. The last thing I remember from that day was the dancing. Remember it was '79 and everyone wanted to Disco. There was an area of the park that had a gazebo and a DJ. That was first time I heard a song, a song that I thought was the greatest ever. It was Anita Ward's "Ring My Bell". And the best part, my sister L, bought the 45" and we got to listen to it all summer long.
This is the first time I've seen it all in writing. I sure wish I would have had a journal back then and a camera. We have no pictures from that time and it makes me kind of sad. But at least I still have those great memories that I shared with my family. I am so grateful that my sister I and my brother S, made that trip possible for us. That was the best time for me and I hope that it was for the rest of my family. Since we were a bit poor, those types of things we not possible for us. For that one summer, we lived the good life. And I will always be grateful that they took care of us.
Today's soundtrack is my ode to the best summer of my life. Enjoy!

My sister L's favorite song.
Yes, I know this came out in the '80s but it fits my whole situation,
sitting with the luggage in the back of the station wagon.
How cute was Sir McCartney!
This was the first time I had seen Soul Train.
To this today, if this song come on,
me and my 3 sisters start dancing.
